Instructor authoring workspace

Build curriculum, coordinate teaching work, and publish from one course context.

Course Studio keeps landing details, curriculum, lesson content, assessments, resources, readiness, publishing, calendar, and board work connected without turning the LMS into a separate SPA.

Course Studio workflow

Frame the courseSet landing content, marketplace access, media, outcomes, and instructor context.
Shape curriculumOrder sections and lessons, then create a single supported sub-lesson level where it helps learning.
Plan deliveryConnect live dates, milestones, and course tasks through Calendar and Board.
Validate and publishUse readiness and approval controls before exposing access.

Curriculum and sub-lessons

Curriculum is a course-scoped tree: Section → Lesson → Sub-lesson. Dragging supports section ordering, cross-section lesson moves, and nesting or unnesting one child level. A parent lesson retains its overview content but becomes a container; learner progress and completion use published leaf lessons. Revision checks prevent stale concurrent changes, and the workspace provides immediate save feedback plus a short undo path.

Depth boundary: a sub-lesson cannot become another parent. This keeps navigation, prerequisites, access inheritance, progress, and certification rules understandable for learners and staff.

Calendar and course board

Course calendar
  • Shows live lesson ranges, quiz windows, assignment due dates, fixed drip releases, linked board due dates, and instructor planning events.
  • Uses range-based feeds and renders in the academy timezone while timestamps remain UTC.
  • Linked items update their source only after existing permission and ownership checks.
Course planning board
  • Starts with Backlog, Planned, In Progress, Review, and Done columns.
  • Cards support priorities, labels, assignees, dates, checklists, comments, private attachments, and curriculum links.
  • Keyboard/touch alternatives, mobile drawers, filters, undo, and archive behavior use the shared board interaction model.
Named routePurpose
lms.courses.builderCanonical staff authoring workspace for one course.
lms.courses.curriculum.orderRevisioned curriculum ordering mutation.
lms.calendar.indexAcademy calendar, optionally narrowed to a course.
lms.courses.boardPlanning board in the current course context.

Publish safely

Readiness, review, approval, protected media, lesson previews, prerequisites, drip, and completion requirements keep their existing domain behavior. The Publish view is where staff choose storefront visibility, confirm access mode, open an eligible storefront page, or create invitations for a private course.
